WinCE password protection
Hi All,

I'm researching to modify WinCE to enable password protection when the system is on. I'm interested to get it on my device so that, anything happen such as my car stolen or the device has stolen no one can know where and what location inside.

There is a case when the car stolen and the theft use GPS to navigate to the car owner house. The bad think is the owner left the house key in the car so the theft easily can get the car and enter the house to rob more. luckily no one in the house, so no injury happen.Energizer

Any reference would really appreciate.

RE: WinCE password protection
Some people have tried (Posts on it are within this site)But have bricked their unit.
Personally, the best bet is to not have the device mounted by the window sucker. But mount it somehow on the dash.
This way it does not show a would be theif that you have one, and takes the temptation away.

RE: WinCE password protection
I mount mine with automobile grade velco with great success. The velco is not easily visible, just rip the GPS off or stick it on, no mucking around with water or spit, no rings on the windscreen, no obstructed view, no vibration.

I have the velco stuck to the dash,(the loops look neater than the hooks), and the hooks to the GPS window carrier.

It may look and feel a bit wobbly but there are no vibrations when traveling and it does not come loose, even the large heavy 7" unit.

The downside is that once you choose the position you're stuck to it. No adjusting the position.

RE: WinCE password protection
Unfortunately WinCE does not provide support for password protection even though the option is available under Control Panel. Once you set a password there is no way to enter it again once the system boots. So don't try it if you want to be able to use your device again otherwise a firmware re-flash is the only fix.

Cheers, Ian
