Sad Like last year's fashion - MN6 on WIN CE 4.2
I'm having an absolute helluva time trying to get one lousy map update for the SmartMirror, which runs Mobile Navigator 6.

I currently have an early 2008 Oz map and when I'm on the Kwinana Freeway than runs past the back of my 'burb now, I'm shown driving through what used to be paddocks on the map...

Azentek are useless. They don't read their forums and the Aussie site inspires no confidence in terms of support as it only seems to want to deal with sales.
I received no installation DVD and the SD card is a generic 2Gb Kingston, no 'official' looking sticker. This is what happens when you get a car-yard to source and fit one into a car for you...

Navigon Fresh flat-out refuses to 'see' MN6.5.2 on an SD card, whether full-version (must thank whoever had that link...) or the sawn-off Azentek version, yet it'll recognise an SD card with 7.4.2 sitting on it.

So as I see it my options are:
  1. Upgrade the SmartMirror to WinCE 5 - Would like to but 4.2 appears embedded and I don't want to rip the mirror out. Also noted that the spot for a mini USB port has a nice piece of plastic in the way (if there is a port)
  2. Upgrade to MN7. - I'm just being facetious here: I need WinCE 5 from what I understand. See 1.
  3. Buy the right map for my version - Would be happy to but Navigon don't even have a "Sorry, you need to buy MN7, loser. Haha!" anywhere. You can't get anything unless you use Navigon Fresh. And assuming that Navigon Fresh can 'read' your SD installation version. So it's Catch-22.Copy of banghead
  4. Convert the Oz map for MN7 - at least I assume that I have to, since my back-up works fine with the MN6 map but not with the latest MN7-compatible map that's been posted in another thread. I get a 'Can't find map' error.
  5. Find some other GPS software - that runs in Win CE 4.2 and updates Aussie maps on that version...

Interestingly, I don't seem to have any problem with the 'full' 6.5.2 version running as yet.

Any assistance gratefully received. I hate ranting like a know-nothing-newb.
I'm quite capable of hacking if I absolutely have-to (in-terms of pulling the PDA part of the mirror apart) but as I get older and my eyesight's starting to give up, I try to work a little smarter instead of harder.

I'm exceedingly frustrated after having now spent a total of about 16 hours trying to get a new map.Computers_comp03

A 2009 map would be something but every time I come close there's always that one barrier which flashes up "reverse-engineer it yourself" and I refuse to concede that I'm the only person in the Inter-verse who's facing this dilemna.

Again apologies for the rant.Anim_32

G'day Schprocket. Welcome to the forum.

Nice rant..... An enjoyable read.
Is is possible to use a different program all together. I know very little about the SmartMirror, or what type of system is uses for connecting to the Nav Software.
Most Chinese clones use a file like "shell.ini" or "Autorun.exe" or even a file called "GPSRun.txt"

If you run a different program, all the latest and greatest is here. And by what I have just read, you would be more than capable of pulling it off.

Hi Geoff,

Thanks for the reply mate! :)

You've kind of confirmed what I'd thought about the unit the SmartMirror is based on.
Just before I posted my rant, I'd read in another GPS forum (albeit a couple of years old) where some guys in the States were buying 'mirrors' from China and having fun installing GPS software on them.
They too were embedded with a 'locked' Win CE 4.2 interface.
As you say, I have something like a boot script in the form of a 'shell.ini' file which just has the path/command to start the MN6.exe file.

So now all I have to do is choose which one I want to use?... err... after searching... again... :)

The SmartMirror maybe found Guests cannot see links in the messages. Please register to forum by clicking here to see links.

Schprocket.

By the looks of those specs, it should run most programs.
Buy yourself another SD card (Keeping the one you have as a backup) and just try some of the other programs.
All you have to do is alter the "shell.ini"
Examples:
Current
\sdmmc\mobilenavigator\mobilenavigator.exe (SDMMC can be \storagecard\ or \Storage Card\ as well)
To
\sdmmc\igo8\igo8.exe
or
\sdmmc\oziexplorer\oziexplorer.exe
All the programs are here on this site. If you have any problems, just ask.

Thanks again Geoff!

I got onto the iGO8 thread which hollowman started and went ok until I hit the map issue again. However, I logged in this morning to find that delete had posted a link, presumably to stop any more of my emo-posts in their tracks - LOL !

If you were a few thousand km's closer, I'd drive out out to the bakery and grab some tucker :)

Steve

P.S. I'm actually quite stoked to find the unit is as flexible as it's turned out to be. Usually I deliberate over things like that and never really use all the functionality but in this case, it's been a pleasant surprise...

For anybody else who's found themselves in the same predicament with the Azentech SmartMirror and it's clone, I suggest you read Guests cannot see links in the messages. Please register to forum by clicking here to see links..
The only thing broken on the first page is the map link but new ones appear later in the thread.

Also, don't unpack any archives in OSX; use Windows.

I used TheUnarchiver in OSX but I got Initialization error: LoadLanguage failed when trying to run iGO8 in the mirror.

I went over to Windows7 and used 7-zip as the extraction program, added the files per hollowman's instructions, then copied over and modified the original shell.ini file to read \sdmmc\iGO8\iGO8.exe.

That is really nice information given by you. It was worth reading. It actually added a good knowledge in me. I like your options and buying a new GPS is worth. Good work done by you.
